Hello dear friends.
The old moderator of the Takashi Miike community died.  It was terrible.  He was covered in semen, blood, and breast milk.

We will mourn him.

At last a new moderator, one who loves Miike, and Japanese cinema.

I love you all.

Captain America - Bucky
6:55 PM 4/5/09 · The basic concept of an Asian Western really kinda worked for me at first. I still haven't watched it yet but I was entertaining a guest earlier, wanted to show the special features I discussed for 18 Year Old Virgin to love me for meStuberyl and just a bit after that I read the bio for Sukiyaki Western Django...

...and it sounds suspiciously like a Bruce Willis film I saw once. Set in the 1920's, or thereabouts, Willis goes to town and works for one gang family but then brings about a full fledged gangwar with the other major gang in town. Can't remember the name offhand but it also starred Christopher Walken.

The description for Sukiyaki Western Django is this: 2 clans battle for a legendary treasure hidden in a desolate mountain town. One day, a lone gunman with incredible shooting skills drifts into town. The 2 clans try to woo the lone gunman to their side, but he has ulterior motives. Dirty tricks, betrayal, desire, and love collide as the situation erupts into a final explosive showdown...

...which minus the location switch and the combatants, is idental to that film I can't remember the name of.

Makes me wonder if this is a remake of that film or if they both are remakes of something else.

after having watched the movieCollapse )

I usually don't start to write these posts up before I actually watch them but these were unusual circumstances. Definitely recommend that anyone reading this goes and sees this movie if they haven't already.

Hell, I may have to buy it!

Miike's First English Movie

Takashi Miike's upcoming project, 'Sukiyaki Western: Django', is a take on the Corbucci classic Spaghetti Western from 1966, 'Django'.

Seems as though, as could possibly be expected, it's probably going to have heavy Yakuza leanings as it's about warring gangs, but it looks as though this will be Miike's first English Language film, and fittingly for a nice bit of pulp cinema it features a small cameo by Quentin Tarantino, in a small role as 'Ringo'.

Shooting is currently underway.

More info here, here and here. Pre-Production sketches here.

Hi everyone, just joined this community but Miike's been my favorite director for the past 3 years now. Anyway, I saw Imprint last week and am surprised no one's said anything about it yet.

I thought it was god-awful. Which is a first for me when it comes to Miike's work. Up until now, the biggest criticism of anything i've seen by him has been, "well that wasn't quite as amazing as most of the rest," but Imprint really left me cold. I don't know if it was the horrible acting or the need to have everyone speaking in english or the ludicrous rubber fetuses (feti?) or what, but the only thing this film managed to do well is make me squirm during the torture scene. Aside from that, though, i've actually been discouraging people from renting this at the video store where i work, and i'm usually a huge Miike booster.

So, uh...what's everybody else's take?

Audition question
Visitor Q
This is my first post here, but I should have joined long ago! I'm a huge Miike fan! Anyway, I'm looking for screenshots or comprehensive character designs or SOMETHING of the girl's final outfit in Audition. I looked everywhere online, but I need something where I can get an idea of what the full outfit looks like and how it comes together and all. I don't have a DVD of it handy. x.x; If anyone has good images of it or can take screencaps of some scene where you can see her full body, that'd be awesome!

Also, I don't remember, but can you really tell what kind of fabric her outfit is made from? Are the gloves and apron thing leather or something else? And is that packing tape she has wrapped around to hold it on??

Any help is really appreciated, as I'm trying to put a costume together. ^_^ Thanks!!!
